Whilst on the subject of Coorabella, a few years ago I was there with Kate and Sam on their wedding day. At sunset a comet appeared in the western sky and a finger moon not quite over head; a cosmic event that was magic.

Syvanna and Richards’ second wedding anniversary is coming around, so I 've put these up to remember a really beautiful country wedding. Coorabella is an archetypal north coast property, a mix of tasteful eccentricity set amongst rolling green countryside behind Byron Bay.
Soon after their marriage, they both took extended leave from their jobs and went on an open ended trip around the world.

Simone received her PhD just before Christmas, after ten years of study mixed with full time work and children. When we first met she was in the midst of a Siddartha-esque career change. Several years of work as a clinical psychologist followed by a year of carefree travel had left her in a minor existential crisis, and she was briefly trying her hand at being a cleaner. Her aptitude and talent drew her back to psychology, and now she has a Doctorate!. She also has far and away the highest EQ of anyone I know (although inexplicably she gets me wrong occasionally). There is also a trustworthy wisdom to her, and if I was ever to share a lifeboat I’d want her in charge. Congratulations Dr Buff we are all proud of you and love you.

I love this photograph. It was taken during a sound check before a dress rehearsal of Beckett x3, produced by the Queensland Theatre Co. (Education troupe). It’s a short, intense play and the demands of the role seem etched into Georgina Symes face. Amongst other things, a Samuel Beckett play is like a self-absorbed life stripped of all its veneer. The image, for me captures the isolation of being caught in one’s headspace. Life doesn’t have to be that way, but Beckett saw that as often as not, it is.

For some reason winter weddings aren’t as popular as summer one’s. It might have something to do with the fact most dresses are more comfortable in hot weather and blokes in suits just have to put up with it. The other thing is the weather is more settled in winter. Having said that Natasha and Warren snuck their mid-May beach ceremony in two days before an east coast low washed Marcoola beach away.
