My Way (pt. 1)

18-October-2010

Once or twice I‘ve had a dream, I turn up at a wedding ceremony and the sun has set and everyone is moving off down a dark street, silhouetted by the street light. I figure it’s my subconscious telling me something and so on and so forth. A little way back this dream (sort of) came true.

Though the real version was carefully crafted by Sarah and Matt to reflect who they were and what was important to them.  A love story, it was anti-orthodox gothic/grunge meets DIY with a subtext of tongue in cheek cool, set on a rainy night beside the river. Five stars.

Absolutely amazing, Stephen! It's like Abbey Rd meets Anne Rice and the best bits out of a little known feature film - set in Brisbane - entitled "Mosaic". Congratulations, Matt and Sarah, on doing your own thing so splendidly. Jacquie

After Sarah and I met with Stephen, and got his vibe, we had insanely high hopes. Stephen, you've exceeded them!

The shots are so real. None of that shoot-by-numbers "say cheese" stuff. Everything I can see here is the real emotion and the real atmosphere (often multiplied). You've given me beautiful photos of my awesome wife that show her real character.

Also, the life you've brought out of almost complete darkness is amazing. (ISO 10-billion for the win!)

Picking a photographer to cover a once-only event is one of those choices you can't undo. We kicked an epic goal!

Keep being awesome, Stephen!

Hi Stephen, On looking again at these photos of Matt and Sarah's wedding I'd like to thank you so much for the beauty and character you have captured in them. It is just stunning that you have presented us with such a visual record of the minutae of the occasion in these few photos so far - I can hardly wait to see the rest! For Matt's family - and I imagine for Sarah's as well - it is amazing that on such a short acquaintance with them both you have perceived the essence of their personalities and been able to recreate in visual form their philosophical approach. This leaps out of every shot. With Matt as a son, I have of course realised that creativity, art and philosophy blend in the creation of any aspect of visual media, but I have been blown away by the stunning example of this in the work you have presented in these photographs, and in their diversity. Grateful thanks for this, and for your quiet and assured unobtrusive presence in getting the best out of all of us on the afternoon and night. Jacquie

Hi Stephen, your photography is rare indeed, absolute credit to you and Matt & Sarah for crafting such a rich visual and emotional story! GS made a lot of the outfits for this wedding party and with what you've created here you have tapped into some of the back story embedded in our designs.
